Courier & Compost

Here's The Rub. You Can't Flip Compostable Capsules In The Bin Or Your Compost Heap. They Need Specialist Processing.

Courier & Compost Your Used Compostable Capsules Back To Nature

Our new compostable capsules are the latest technology. They are made from a plant based bio-plastic and are fully certified as being made from bio-based materials and compostable in industrial facilities.

They look good, they’ll work in your machine, they keep the coffee fresh and they’ll taste just great. We can also complete the loop and put them back to nature.

What To Do With Your Used Compostable Capsules

We've got some easy as options so that you don't have to sweat about returning your used pods to nature.

If you live in the Auckland area, then we recommend getting a Benchtop Caddy from We Compost. Take a big step in the right direction and divert your compostable household waste, like food scraps and coffee pods, away from landfill and into making something good for New Zealand.

If you live in a part of New Zealand that has industrial composting collection facilities, then you can drop your used pods into that system.

If you don’t, then Courier & Compost is the way to go.

Courier & Compost

Courier & Compost will work the same way as the old Return & Recycle. Simply buy a return courier ticket when you purchase your compostable pods, enjoy your coffee and send your pods back to us. Too easy!

Courier & Compost tickets will only cost you the return courier fare. It’s all based on where you live in New Zealand.

The new system is a step ahead and very easy.

  • We’ll send your coffee in a cardboard box with a compostable bag inside.
  • Simply take your coffee packs out and keep the box and the bag.
  • Drop your empty pods in a plastic tub to dry them as you go. Use something like an old ice cream container with the top off.
  • When all done, line the box with the compostable bag and pour in the capsules. Tie the bag off.
  • Lock the carton back up and attach the courier ticket to the box.
  • Courier Post will collect the box from your door shortly after you let them know it is ready.

Something That We Learned Very Quickly!

We recommend re-purposing a plastic tub to dry your capsules. If you put hot wet capsules in the green compostable bag then ..... it composts!

You Can Only Compost Our Capsules

Here’s a really important point. We Compost accept our capsules because they are fully certified as compostable. You can See Our Certification here. We can’t be sure that other brands are certified so returns that have any mix of plastic, aluminium or other brand compostable pods will not be processed and will be sent to landfill. Sorry but them’s the rules in the composting game!

What Happens To Your Returned Pods

We collect them all up and send them to We Compost – Auckland’s leading compostable waste management company. They arrange for the pods to be correctly composted using industrial composting processes. The compost is then used in the forestry and agricultural sectors.

Compostable Coffee Capsules & Nespresso® Compatible Pods

As a Kiwi business we are firm believers in ethical business practices, in particular, sustainability. At Coffee Capsules 2U, we don’t just talk the talk; we actually offer a practical composting solution for our coffee capsules.

As more and more Kiwis become mindful of their impact on the environment, we believe that it is important, as commercial suppliers of Nespresso® compatible coffee capsules, to offer our customers a legitimate solution for their used coffee pods. That used to be recycling our regular plastic capsules. In October 2019, the release of our latest technology compostable capsule allowed us to offer our customers a number of options to return their used capsules back to nature.

When considering the recycling or composting of coffee pods, it is important to note a couple of key things:

  • Council recycling processes can't separate capsules out of the waste stream so they go to landfill. That's both recyclable plastics or bio-plastics.
  • Capsules made from bio-plastics are certified to compost in industrial composting systems. They will not biodegrade in landfill - at least not anytime soon.
The only way to properly recycle / compost your used coffee pods is to send them to a specialist processor.

When you choose the new compostable capsules, you can enjoy your really good espresso coffee at home without any environmental concerns. It’s the next step forward towards the future goal of sustainable food packaging. The future is in our hands.
